Coal Creek Mural Project

We’re installing a mural at the Public Road underpass in Lafayette to beautify the area and celebrate the city’s commitment to its pollinators. This mural will cover the western retaining wall and is made possible, in part, thanks to funding from the City of Lafayette 2025 Public Arts Grant. We are seeking sponsors to help us close a funding gap.

Vote for your favorite design

Help us decide which design will decorate our underpass. Voting will remain open until July 31, 2025 at 11:59PM and is open to residents of Lafayette only.

Meet the Artist

Our judging panel, with representation from Friends of Coal Creek, the City of Lafayette Open Space Department and the Collective Community Arts Center, reviewed excellent 23 submissions and chose Denver-area artist Stacey Long Reynolds as our muralist.

Artist Statement

”As a painter, I strive to illustrate the strength and emotions of nature. There is nowhere I feel calmer than in the beautiful mountains and among the wildflowers of Colorado, and most of my paintings focus on this powerful subject. There is such beauty in the way our ecosystem works together through the seasons that deserves to be highlighted, protected, and learned.

Coal Creek is near and dear to my heart. As a brand new mother just coming out of the pandemic, I used to meet up with friends from the Good Samaritan Mama Support group and bundle our new babies in strollers for extended walks along the path. We spent hours baring our souls to each other in such a vulnerable time of life and I cannot think of Coal Creek without reminiscing on that incredible experience. Now that our sons are older, they are best friends and I often take my kids along the same path to explore nature, “plopping rocks” in the creek in the summer and admiring the incredible hoar frost that settles in winter.”
