The full moon of August is known as the sturgeon moon, but we’re going to talk about bats. Join us for a twilit hike along the creek with special guest Brett Riddle, professor emeritus of Life Sciences at UNLV and Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Mammalogy.

We’ll learn about Colorado’s native bat species, how and where they live, what they hunt and how they communicate as we search for their darting sillouhettes against the darkening summer sky.

This hike is suitable for nature lovers of all ages. We’ll keep to the Coal Creek path, ensuring good footing, even in the dark. We might also see and hear: owls, coyotes, chorus frogs, crickets, cicadias — an entire summer night’s soundscape. The roundtrip distance is about 2 miles.

Dress for the weather and consider bug repellent.
